As an experienced English to Russian translator, translation instructor and current reviewer for the SLD Practice Group, I see the need for detailed, specific feedback.

Many of my students — and SLD Practice Group participants — are able to find excellent solutions, but are inconsistent in their approach to practice texts.

Or, they hurry through a text to make sure they complete a passage within the required timeframe and overlook challenging sentences or expressions.

Many of them are familiar with translation techniques and understand what makes a translation a success…

…but struggle with consistently implementing their knowledge in their work.

They need help with developing translation habits that will help them work with challenging texts. They want practical, specific feedback on the errors they are making in their translations.

This is why I am opening registration for the English to Russian Translation Practicum.

Elena Werner is an experienced translator that has been certified since 2012, who is passionate about helping her colleagues master the translation skills they need to succeed.

English to Russian translation practicum is a 100% online course, designed to make translation training more flexible — and effective

Ongoing classes every week, with a minimal commitment time of 3 months. As long as there are spots available, you can join the group at any time

Weekly 1-hour calls in small groups

Many of us are balancing family and work commitments. This is why the practicum is designed to make it easy for you to participate in the live class.

The class lasts 1 hour, and will be scheduled at the time that is the most convenient for all of the participants. That can mean meeting on weekends, if that is the best time for our group.

The practicum group is limited to a maximum of 5 participants at any given time.

Each class is recorded

Every practicum will be recorded. All recordings will be accessible via an online student portal, so that you will have access to them even if you miss a class.

In addition to that, after each practicum I will upload my translation to the portal, so that you can compare your translation to mine.

Personalized feedback within 1 week

If you have questions after a live call, send me your translation with questions included as comments, and I will respond to you with my feedback within a week.

You can also send me your translation if you have missed a live call, and would like to have your translation reviewed — or would like me to review a translation that you have improved after a live call.

English to Russian translation practicum is for:

  • translators interested in taking the ATA Certification Examination that still struggle with understanding and applying the feedback they get on the practice passages

  • experienced translators that want to improve their translation speed, and make translation decisions more confidently

Since 2017, I have been helping English to Russian translators  improve their practical translation skills in a friendly, small-group environment

“Elena stands above average instructors by far in her expertise. But it is also her personal approach that made this class valuable and memorable. She allows for ideas to be exchanged in such a manner that a student leaves with sharper skills while also gaining a sense of confidence and empowerment to be a better translator.”

Practicum classes will start on Friday, June 7, at 5:30 Pacific time

If this time is inconvenient for the class participants,
I will gladly reschedule it for a more convenient day and time,
including on a weekend.

4-week no-obligation guarantee: if after 4 weeks you believe that the practicum is not helping you to become a more skillful and confident translator, you only have to email me to get a refund.

For translators interested in becoming ATA-certified: while I have passed the ATA examination in 2012, and have taught students that passed the ATA examination before or during participating my classes, I cannot guarantee that you will be able to pass the ATA certification examination after participating in the practicum. I can promise you that I will do all I can to help you approach examination texts in a more structured, organized way, make translation decisions faster, and improve your work.
